KUNMING, July 8 (Xinhuanet) -- The local government has made painstaking efforts to provide enough necessary items for the people affected by the mudflows in southwest China's Yunnan province, said government sources on Thursday.
The people have received necessities including 240 tons of food,60,000 sets of clothes, 1,410 cotton blankets and 114 tents, said officials with the Dehong prefecture.
The disaster left 14 dead and 34 missing. Nearly 4,000 were relocated.
Excessive rainfall followed by mountain torrents, mudflows and landslides have hit the prefecture's counties and cities includingYingjiang, Longchuan and Ruili since Sunday night.
The local authority has mobilized 57,800 rescuers and a total of 2.15 million yuan (260,000 US dollars) was allocated for relief work.
The disaster has affected a population totaling 171,600, bringing serious damages to the fields, irrigation, transport, power grids and civilian houses, the government statistics said. Enditem |
