BEIJING, July 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Beijing has started to
build heliports in a park in downtown area for emergency use, reported the
Beijing Times recently.
The five 900-square-meter helicopter landing areas will be erected in Chaoyang Park, close to the city's Central
Business District (CBD) on the eastern part of Beijing.
The move aims to better prepare the capital city for
emergencies such as earthquakes, explosions and major fires and will greatly
facilitate rescue efforts should such emergencies occur.
The heliports serve as greenbelts and parking lots on
usual conditions, said the daily newspaper.
Sources with the park said the five landing areas,
whose construction started on June 22, will be marked in aviation maps so that
helicopters can use relevant data for landing.
The helicopter landing areas constitute one of the
city's ten emergency-response projects now underway, according to the paper.
