GAZA, July 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei asserted on Tuesday that the Egyptian role in the Gaza Strip after the Israeli evacuation will be restricted on training and rehabilitating the Palestinian security apparatuses.
"There is no such thing as an Egyptian security role, but Egypt will help the Palestinian National Authority (PNA)," Qurei told reporters.
His remarks came in response to a poll published on Monday by the Palestinian Centre of Political Studies in the Gaza Strip showed that most Gazans are against an Egyptian security role in the territories.
"The Egyptians will not bring forces but will send trainers and security experts and we highly appreciate the Egyptian role whether played in the Gaza Strip or West Bank," Qurei said.
Meanwhile, Qurei called on the Palestinian leadership and civil society's institutions to convene next Saturday in order to discuss ways of dealing with the International Court of Justice (ICJ)'s advisory opinion about the construction of the Israeli separation wall.
The ICJ is due to deliver on July 9 its advisory opinion about the legal consequences of the establishment of the Israeli separation wall in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
"I hope that the ICJ's decision will include a clear condemnation of construction of the Israeli separation wall and the Israeli violations of Palestinians' rights," Qurei said. Enditem |
