GAZA, July 6
(Xinhuanet) -- Islamic resistance movement Hamas on Tuesday denied reports that
Egypt had began contacts with the movement to stop firing the home made al
Qassam rockets at southern Israel.
Sami Abu Zuhri, a spokesman for Hamas in Gaza, told reporters that his movement had
never heard of this, adding that there were no contacts with Egypt or anyone
else.
"There are no changes in Hamas' strategy of self
defense -- defending our Palestinian people and the continuation of armed
struggle against the occupation. There are no changes in the policy of firing
rockets," said Abu Zuhri.
He added that Hamas would
continue firing al Qassam homemade rockets "as long as there is a military
occupation of the Palestinian territories that carries out the toughest ever
incursion against our people."
Earlier, Israeli reports
said that Egyptian intelligence chief Omer Suleiman had informed a group of
Israelis in Cairo that Egypt was holding contacts with Palestinian militants,
asking them to stop launching al Qassam rockets at Israel.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad recently intensified their attacks against southern
Israel by homemade rockets, and Israeli Apache attack helicopters have fired
missiles at several metal workshops in Gaza.
Israelis said those workshops were manufacturing rockets used to attack Israel. Enditem |
