JAKARTA, July 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Presidential candidate
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono emerged with most of the votes in several polling
stations here when the voting for Indonesia's first direct presidential election
closed at 01:00 p.m. (0600 GMT) Monday.
Retired army general Yudhoyono, who teams up with
former senior minister for people's welfare Jusuf Kalla, topped the results in
seven out of 13 polling stations taken sample by Detikcom online news service in
some densely populated areas in Jakarta and its suburbs.
His strongest rival was Amien Rais, now speaker of
the upper house of parliament, who won at four polling stations.
Incumbent President Megawati Soekarnoputri trailed
behind Rais by winning at two stations.
Yudhoyono also won most of the votes in a housing
complex in East Jakarta where Wiranto, another presidential contender from the
military, resides.
Hamzah Haz, the only candidate representing a
Musim-based party,got the least votes in many of polling stations in the capital
city, winning only at his own neighborhood.
Several polling stations even gave no vote for Haz,
who is now Megawati's deputy.
The National Commission for General Elections (KPU)
has not specified when the national results of the presidential election will be
announced.
KPU has registered some 153 million voters to cast
ballots in around 500,000 election booths across the country. Enditem
