BAGHDAD, July 3 (Xinhuanet) -- A British soldier was lightly wounded in a roadside bomb blast targeting a military convoy in the main southern Iraqi city of Basra on Saturday, Qatar-based al-Jazeera TV channel reported.

The blast took place at 9:00 am (0500 GMT) as the British military convoy was passing by and caused the damage of two vehicles, the channel quoted a spokesperson as saying.

Earlier on Saturday, the US military said in a statement that a US marine had died of wounds sustained Friday during a combat action in al-Anbar province west of Baghdad.

"A marine assigned to 1st Marine Expeditionary Force died of wounds received in action yesterday (Friday) in the al-Anbar province while conducting security and stability operations," the statement said.  Enditem
