KUWAIT CITY, July 2 (Xinhuanet) -- The Saudi Interior Ministry said Friday that a wanted militant and a security member were killed in fresh clashes between security forces and militants in Riyadh late Thursday, Saudi News Agency reported.

A ministry statement said that one of the two wanted militants was killed and his colleague was injured in the clashes late Thursday.

During the clashes, occurred at King Fahd Suburb north of the capital city of Riyadh, a Saudi security member was also killed and his colleague and another National Guards member were injured, added the statement.

Following information from a National Guards member, the security forces chased the two militants of an armed group, drawing fire from them which the security forces returned.

The wanted militant was the second killed within two days. The other was killed by Saudi police in a shootout in Riyadh Wednesday, which also killed a policeman and wounded six others.

The kingdom has been gripped by a spate of anti-Western violence, during which the extremists launched a series of bombings in the capital.

Some 90 people have been killed and hundreds of others injured in the year-long unrest.

Last week, Saudi King Fahd offered a government amnesty for militants who surrender within one month.

Under the amnesty, which guaranteed personal safety for those who repent, the state would drop all charges, while reserving the right of individuals harmed by terror acts to either seek redress through the courts or waive any claims. Enditem
