Bush names new ambassador to UN

    WASHINGTON, July 1 (Xinhuanet) -- US President George W. Bush named on Thursday Jack Danforth new ambassador to the United Nations.

    Danforth, 67, who has been called "Attorney General" ,"Senator'and "Special Envoy", was described by Bush as a "good man and superb public servant".

    Danforth's predecessor John Negroponte was assigned by Bush to be America's first ambassador to Iraq since 1990.

    Danforth was named by Bush in 2001 as special US envoy to war-torn Sudan. Enditem
