JERUSALEM, July 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Over half Israelis support an accelerated withdrawal from the Gaza Strip under Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's disengagement plan, local newspaper Ha'aretz quoted an opinion poll as saying Thursday.
The poll, commissioned by Israel Radio, was conducted following the deadly Qassam rocket attack this week on the southern Israeli city of Sderot killed two Israelis.
Up to 53 percent of Israelis want Sharon to carry out the pullout plan prior to his announced deadline of Dec. 31, 2005, the poll showed.
A majority of Likud voters also wanted to see a faster timetable for the pullout.
Asked about the ruling by the country's High Court of Justice to change the route of the West Bank separation wall north of Jerusalem, 55.6 percent people responded against the ruling.
On Monday morning, Hamas fired two Qassam rockets against Sderot, killing a three-year-old boy and a 50-year-old man, the first deaths in more than 200 Qassam rocket attacks at the area. Enditem |
