JERUSALEM, July 1 (Xinhuanet) -- The Israeli High Court of Justice issued Thursday an order to suspend the construction of the separation wall near the village of Nuuman, which borders east Jerusalem, Israel Radio reported.

The order, affecting only a 1-km section of the barrier, was issued in response to a petition submitted by 66 residents in the area Wednesday.

The Israeli Defense Ministry said Wednesday it would reroute part of the West Bank separation wall after the country's High Court of Justice ordered changes to 30 kilometers of the route near Jerusalem.

The court said in its ruling Wednesday that the current path iolated the rights of tens of thousands of Palestinians living near Jerusalem and their freedom of movement.

It means that modifications will have to be made to a 30-km stretch of the barrier to the north and west of Jerusalem. The new route of the wall will be brought to the cabinet for approval, according to Israeli officials. Enditem
