MANILA, July 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is expected to meet Thursday with members of her Cabinet on her first working day to lay down policies that will be implemented over her six-year term.

"In tonight's Cabinet meeting, we will focus on two issues: First, the programs of the President for national progress where each member of the Cabinet will be given policies to vigorously pursue pro-poor programs. And secondly, updates on government actions to assist victims of typhoon Igme," Deputy presidential spokesman Ricardo Saludo told reporters.

Arroyo made the tours of some provinces in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao around the Philippines to thank the people who supported her during the May 10 election.

She will proceed to her first Cabinet meeting in Clarkfield, Pampanga province, in the northern Philippines at 7:00 p.m. local time (1100 GMT).

On Wednesday, Arroyo delivered her inaugural address in Manila and then took her oath of office in Cebu province in the central Philippines, where she won by a landslide over her main rival Fernando Poe Jr., which secured her victory in the presidential election.

The Philippine military and the police authorities still maintain full alert in Metro Manila even after Arroyo's peaceful inaugural and the military said the alert will be kept until the security situation returns to normal and stable.

On Thursday, Arroyo has ordered the National Disaster Coordinating Council to release additional funds and resources to augment the efforts of local government units hit by the typhoon "Igme" and to coordinate efforts to mitigate the impact of flashfloods and landslides.

At least 12 people have been killed by the typhoon, with 13 others injured and another four still missing. Thousands of peoples were displaced by the typhoon as it swept the Philippines and moved northwest towards China's Taiwan. Enditem
