TEHRAN, June 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Iran on Wednesday slammed US President George W. Bush's recent allegations against the Islamic Republic at the just-ended NATO summit in Istanbul, Turkey, the official IRNA news agency reported.

    "Bush made such comments due to his disappointment at repeated failures and fury, and they were beneath the dignity of apresident," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi was quotedas saying.

    Asefi's comments came after Bush designated Iran "threat to world peace" and alleged that Tehran was trying to develop weapons of mass destruction and spread terrorism around the world.

    Asefi said that "Bush should not forget that he became US president upon a court ruling and he has been under fire in recent months due to his unilateralism, or in other words his authoritarian manner."

    "He has reached a point that many US academics as well as some scientific circles have warned him against the consequences of his undemocratic and authoritarian behaviors," added the spokesman.Enditem
