Saddam, 11 others to be taken into Iraqi custody

    BAGHDAD, June 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Iraq's special tribunal announced Tuesday a list of 12 officials of the former regime to be transferred to Iraqi custody by the US-led coalition on Wednesday.

    Saddam Hussein was on top of the list followed by: Ali Hassan al-Majid, known as chemical Ali, presidential adviser and cousin ofSaddam; Taha Yassin Ramadan, vice president and a close aide for Saddam; Tareq Aziz, deputy prime minister; Sultan Hashem Ahmed, defence minister.

    The list also included: Abed Hamid Mahmoud, presidential secretary; Aziz Saleh al-Numan, head of the former ruling Baath party for western Baghdad; Mohammed Hamza al-Zubaidi, former member of the Revolutionary Command Council; Kamal Mustafa Abdullah, commander of the elite Republican Guards; Watban Ibrahim Hassan al-Tikriti, presidential adviser and half-brother of Saddam; Barzan Ibrahim Hassan al-Tikriti, presidential adviser and also half-brother; Sabir Abdul Aziz al-Douri, military intelligence chief and mayor of Baghdad, who was not enlisted on the coalition's list of 55 most-wanted figures from the former regime.
