Fatah holds Israel responsible for current escalation

GAZA, June 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Fatah movement chaired by Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat held on Sunday Israel responsible for the current military escalation in the West Bank.

The movement condemned the killing of eight Palestinians, including Nayef Abu Sharekh, commander of Fatah's armed wing Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, in the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

The Israeli army raided the city at dawn on Thursday and carried out house-to-house searching, killing at least 11 Palestinians since early Thursday.

The latest attack took place Wednesday evening when a special Israeli force raided one of Nablus old city's neighborhoods and shot dead at least eight Palestinians, most them militants, including Abu Sharekh.

"The Israeli government and its army are fully responsible for this escalation and they should carry on their shoulders the outcomes that would be a result of this escalation," said Fatah movement in a leaflet.

"Such an escalation is aiming at blowing and undermining all the international and Arab efforts to get the region out of the cycle of conflict," it added.

Fatah called on the international community, the Quartet Committee and the United Nations Security Council to interfere as immediate as possible "to stop the crazy violent massacres committed against the innocent people."  Enditem
