Senior palestinian militants killed

    The killed Palestinian militants include three senior faction leaders.

    Among the dead was Nayef Abu Sharkh, West Bank leader of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.

    Others were the local leader of the military wing of Hamas in Nablus and the top commander for Islamic Jihad in the West Bank city of Jenin.

    Responding to the killings, the Palestinian leadership condemned what it called a "dangerous escalation", while the militants threatened revenge.

    The violence overshadowed earlier talks between US Middle East envoy William Burns and Palestinian premier Ahmed Qorei on the proposed Israeli pullout from the Gaza Strip.
