GAZA, June 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmad Qurei met on Saturday with US Middle East Envoy William Burns, who making a tour to convene with Arab and Israeli leaders.
Palestinian sources said that the Qurei-Burns talks will discuss the outcomes of the Quartet representatives' meeting held on Thursday at the Egyptian Red Sea Resort of Taba.
The meeting will also tackle the ongoing Egyptian efforts that aim at revising the peace process as well as the Israeli continuous military aggressions and Jewish settlement's activities in the Palestinian territories.
Burn's visit came amid Egypt's intensive efforts to implement its initiative presented by its intelligence chief Omar Suleiman tothe Palestinians and Israel.
Meanwhile, Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said that Burns' visit aims at providing international monitoring crews and setting timetables and mechanisms for the implementation of the Roadmap.
Erekat added that the meeting will call on the Quartet to press Israel in order to halt its Jewish settlement's activities and stopthe establishment of the separation wall.
Erekat, who convened on Wednesday with US Secretary of State Collin Powell in Washington, said that the US Administration and the Quartet have to assume their responsibilities and provide timetables, mechanisms and international monitors for the implementation of the plan. Enditem |
