HANOI, June 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Vietnam will make greater efforts, along with support of its partners, to be admitted to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2005, maybe December of the year.
"Vietnam will try its best to join the WTO as soon as possible,in 2005 if possible. As a rule, admission ceremonies for new memberships to WTO take place at the time of the meeting of trade ministers of WTO members in December every year," spokesman of theMinistry of Foreign Affairs, Le Dung, said at a press briefing on Thursday.
However, Vietnam's accession to the WTO depends on many factors, including its partners, he admitted
"In most negotiations, both bilateral and multilateral, our partners show their support to Vietnam's early accession to the WTO. Now, it's time for them to translate their goodwill into concrete actions," Dung stressed.
With good results of the 8th round of negotiations in mid-June in Geneva, Switzerland, Vietnam's efforts in economic reform, and greater support of its partners, the country will become the WTO'smember soon, he said.
WTO members negotiating a membership package with Vietnam praised it on June 15 for considerably improving its market accessoffers for goods and services, and its program for applying the organization's agreements, he noted. Enditem
