Fatah rejects communique opposing Egypt's security role

GAZA, June 22 (Xinhuanet) -- The Fatah movement denied on Tuesday any connection with a communique issued earlier by the Palestinian factions which rejected an Israeli pullout plan and the Egyptian role due to be played in the Gaza Strip.

"We are still committed to our position that welcomes the Israeli evacuation from any Palestinian area, considering it as a national achievement," the movement said in a communique.

It also highly evaluated the support of Egypt, saying Egypt has always supported the Palestinians and their struggle with the aim of establishing an independent Palestinian state.

Earlier on Tuesday, ten radical Palestinian factions announced their opposition to Egypt and Jordan taking any security role in the West Bank and Gaza Strip after an Israeli pullout from the territories.

In a joint statement posted on the Hamas website, the factions said, "We note with surprise and disapproval talk about a security role for various Arab parties in the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank."

Such a role would suggest that the Palestinian people are the problem instead of the occupation, it added. Enditem
