Lance Armstrong fights to clear name
www.chinaview.cn 2004-06-16 10:41:58

BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhuanet) -- American cycling star and five time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong has vowed to take legal action over a new book about him which alleges he used banned drugs, CRIENGLISH.com reported Wednesday.

Tailwind Sports, owner and operator of Armstrong's US Postal Service Cycling team, said the 33-year-old will begin libel proceedings against the authors and publishers of "L.A. Confidential: The Secrets of Lance Armstrong."

The book focuses on statements attributed to Emma O'Reilly, a physiotherapist who worked with Armstrong from 1998-2000. O'Reilly claims Armstrong used the banned blood booster EPO.

Armstrong has instructed his lawyers to institute libel proceedings immediately.
