Arafat calls for immediate Israeli pullout

GAZA, June 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat on Monday called on Israel to start implementing its evacuation plan from the territories immediately.

Arafat told reporters "Israel has to immediately start evacuating the territories in accordance with the roadmap plan that we have agreed upon for months and has not been implemented till now".

Arafat's remarks came after Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said on Sunday that he had ordered to form committees to implement his unilateral evacuation plan.

Meanwhile, the Palestine Liberation Organization stressed in a statement issued Monday that any Israeli pullout from Palestinian lands should be part of the roadmap.

The statement also emphasized the importance of coordination between Israel and the Palestinian National Authority on the withdrawal.

The Israeli cabinet approved a unilateral plan of disengagement with the Palestinians on June 6, agreeing to evacuate all 21 Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip and four others near Jenin in northern West Bank.  Enditem
