KABUL, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Six more people suspected of involving in the deadly attack on Chinese construction workers in north Afghanistan were detained Sunday, bring the total of the detainees to 10, local ranking military commander declared.

In an exclusive telephone interview with Xinhua, General Daud, commander of the Sixth Corps charged with safeguarding northeastern part of the country, said that six more people were detained Sunday in Ali Abad district, Kunduz province, where workers of a Chinese construction company were based and attacked early last Thursday.

This brings the total of suspects arrested to 10, he said.

"All these people were Afghans," he said and vowed to bring allthose responsible to justice.

Until Sunday morning, four people were captured by local security forces in neighboring province of Baghlan.

In a related story filed earlier by a foreign news agency, General Daud was quoted as saying that a total of 14 people were arrested in connection with the attack. He denied the report when talking with Xinhua.

Earlier last Friday, General Daud said that a total of five people took part in the vicious attack on armless Chinese workers. He told Chinese ambassador Sun Yuxi that the attackers will be brought to justice soon.

Two Chinese delegations that were responsible for transferring the wound and the dead back home have arrived in Kabul over the past two days. They will make necessary arrangement with the Chinese Embassy, Afghan transitional government and other concerned parties and escort the victims home on chartered airliners very soon.

A total of 11 Chinese workers were murdered and four others wounded in a pre-dawn surprise terrorist attack at a road construction site at Jealau Gear, Kunduz province last Thursday.

This was the single heaviest loss of life for a foreign company since the foundation of the Harmid Karzai government in late 2001.Enditem
