BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Laptop computer "Star of Unisplendour" beat international grand master Zhu Chen by resignation here on Saturday to score a 2-0 victory over the former women's world champion in the first human vs. machine chessmatch held in China.

Playing black, the computer played an almost perfect game to win in 33 turns.

The "Star of Unisplendour", whose software programmers are fromsome chess specialists and top players, was newly developed by a top Chinese IT company "Tsinghua Unisplendour Ltd".

The pregnant Zhu, who had became the second Chinese "queen of chess" by winning the world championship in Moscow in 2001, struggled to revenge her first loss to the computer on Tuesday butlost control of the game after making several mistakes.

"Playing against a computer is very interesting," said Zhu at the press conference after the match. "The computer played very well and made no mistakes, but I made mistakes."

"Despite the losses, I become more interested in the game and Iwill try to play more with computers," she added.

Zhu, 28, gave up the chance to defend her world title in Georgia in May due to a jammed schedule and her pregnancy. Enditem
