NANCHANG, June 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Each family of the 10 Chinese construction workers who were slain by gunmen in a terrorist attack in Afghanistan Thursday received the first batch of pensionin Guangfeng County of east China's Jiangxi Province Saturday.
Li Zhenliang, trade unions chairman of the No. 14 Bureau of theChina Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and of the two injuredworkers and presented each family with 3,000 yuan (361 US dollars)in pension.
The 10 workers, employed by the China Railway Construction Corporation, were killed in a terrorist attack in Kunduz province in north Afghanistan Thursday morning, when some 20 gunmen opened fire at Chinese workers and security guards. Five others were injured in the accident.
This was the first major casualties China has encountered in Afghanistan in the past two years and also one of the worst terrorist attacks on foreigners since the former Taliban regime was ousted last in 2001.
After the attack, the China Railway Construction Corporation has sent six work teams to Guangfeng County, the hometown of the victims, to deal with aftermath issues.
Zheng Xiujie, deputy general manager of the No. 14 Bureau of the China Railway Construction Corporation, went to the house of Zheng Mingwen, who was killed in the Afghanistan attack, in Xinxing Village of east China's Shandong Province Saturday morningto show sympathy and solicitude to his family members.
The deputy general manager told Zheng's parents the local government will help them solve their problems and brought them the first batch of 3,000 yuan as pension.
He also told family members of workers who still work in Afghanistan that CRCC will continue its construction in Afghanistan despite of the attack. Officials of the CRCC have goneto visit workers remaining in Afghanistan. Enditem |
