US still the largest arms dealer: report
www.chinaview.cn 2004-06-10 16:23:42

BEIJING, June 10 (Xinhuanet) -- The US is still the largest arms exporter in the world whilst China's Taiwan region the largest buyer of the US arms, People's Daily Online said Thursday, citing the latest annual report released by the Swedish Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

According to Taiwan media, which cited the data released by the SIPRI, the US accounts for about half of the arms expenditure in the world mainly because the expenses for military actions in Iraq and Afghanistan rose dramatically.

The report also points out that the US is still one of the largest arms exporters in the world and Taiwan the largest client of the US arms sales, People's Daily Online said.
