LOS ANGELES,
June 5 (Xinhuanet) -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said Saturday
that he was deeply saddened by the passing of former US President Ronald
Reagan.
"He was a great American patriot. I did not just admire him. I was fortunate enough to know him, "Schwarzenegger said
in a statement. Reagan died Saturday at his Bel-Air home in Los Angeles after a
decade-long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Reagan, a
former movie star, was California's governor from 1967 to 1975.
When serving as governor of California, Reagan promoted
bipartisan cooperation, furthered economic growth and embraced government's duty
to protect natural resources, Schwarzenegger said.
Schwarzenegger, also a movie-star-turned governor of California,said Reagan
always inspired him to be a leader. In honor of Reagan,California Capitol flags
will be flown at half-staff, according to Schwarzenegger's office.
