PARIS, June 5 (Xinhuanet) -- US
President George W. Bush, who is visiting France for the 60th anniversary
ceremonies of D-Day landings in Normandy on Sunday, said Saturday that the death
of his predecessor, Ronald Reagan, was a sad day for America, the White House
officials said.
Bush was informed of the
Reagan's death after dinner in French presidential Elysee Palace with French
President Jacques Chirac.
"It's a sad day for America," the
White House spokeswoman Clare Buchan quoted Bush as saying.
Reagan, who served as the 40th US president from 1981 to 1989, died at the age
of 93 at his home in California on Saturday after suffering from Alzheimer's
disease for nearly a decade.
Both his wife Nancy and his
eldest son, Michael Reagan, have confirmed his death.
