ROME, June 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said here Saturday that his country expects a new United Nations resolutionon on Iraq to be finalized next week.

Speaking in a press conference after meeting with visiting US President George W. Bush, Berlusconi said that Italy is working with the United States and other countries on the new UN resolution draft.

Meanwhile, Bush guaranteed that the new Iraqi interim government in Baghdad led by Iyad Allawi will have an entire and effective sovereignty.

During their meeting, Berlusconi and Bush exchanged views on Iraqi affairs and cooperation between Italy and United States.

Tens of thousands of anti-war demonstrators took to the streets of Rome on Friday to protest against the visit by Bush, who is in Rome to take part in celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the capital's liberation by Allied Forces.

More than 10,000 police have been deployed in Rome amid fears that there could be a replay of the violence that marred the G8 summit in Genoa. Enditem
