GUANGZHOU, June 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Two people were killed and four others injured when they were struck by lightning in Qingjiang city of south China's Guangdong province last week, said local police on Friday.

The lightning strike occurred around 3:30 p.m. on May 27, killing a cowherd surnamed Wu at the scene and knocking five others down. One of them, surnamed Zhu, died later in local hospital.

Another lightning bolt also hit a residential house in Qingcheng district of the city about 7:30 a.m. Thursday, fortunately without casualties, the police said.

Incomplete statistics showed that 16 people had been struck dead by bolt of lightning while 21 others injured from 2001 to 2003 in Qingyuan, a thunderstorm center in Guangdong province. Enditem
