NEW DELHI, May 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Taking into account the first session of the newly constituted 14th Lok Sabha (Lower House of parliament) coming up in June, detailed security arrangements with hi-tech gadgets are being made in and around the Indian parliament.

"Security has been beefed up around the Parliament House and all vehicles entering it will be thoroughly checked by security personnel," the Indo-Asian News Service cited Deputy Commissioner of Police Anita Roy as said here Friday.

Security agencies are relying on hi-tech gadgets like tyre killers, road blockers and hooters that have been installed at thetwo operational gates of Parliament House.

In addition, jersey cement barriers have been made at the gates.

Security personnel will activate tyre killers, if they find a vehicle coming dangerously close to the parliament gates without the mandatory clearance.

"The minute a secret button is pressed, an iron nail of about nine inches will come above the road surface and puncture the tyres of the vehicle," said a senior official privy to the security arrangements.

Similarly, road blockers and hooters have been installed and jersey cement barriers set up on roads to block the way of vehicles gaining entry to parliament.

Hi-tech radio tags will be incorporated in identity cards givento members of Parliament. "The radio cards will be made mandatory for getting entry to the parliament premises," said a government official.

"We have installed the best security devices available in the world and the entire staff has been given special training about the operational details of each device," the official said.

Ever since the parliament attack of Dec. 13, 2001, Indian Parliament has become an impenetrable fortress, one of the most heavily guarded centers of power in the world. Enditem
