GAZA, May 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The Israeli army has demolished 277 Palestinian houses in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah since May 1, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) said in a report Wednesday.

In the "Operation Rainbow" alone, the army demolished 167 buildings that were home to 2,066 Palestinians, which was the worst house demolition campaign perpetrated in Rafah since the outbreak of the Intifada (Uprising) in September 2000, said the UN relief agency.

The overall number of Palestinian homes demolished by the Israeli army since the Intifada has hit 1,476 in Rafah, with 14,666 Palestinians rendered homeless, the report said.  Enditem
