GENEVA, May 25 (Xinhuanet) -- A United Nations special committee investigating Israeli practices in the occupied territories will visit Lebanon, Egypt and Syria from Tuesday to June 8, UN officials said.
The United Nations Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People andOther Arabs of the Occupied Territories intend to gather information and then present its conclusions and recommendations to the UN General Assembly.
The Israeli government has never cooperated with the committee,established in December 1968, and denied access to the occupied territories.
The committee would gather information from hearings and witnesses who had first-hand and recent experience of the human rights situation in the occupied territories.
The investigation would also involve government representativesand a wide range of other interlocutors. Enditem |
