KABUL, May 25 (Xinhuanet) -- At least three suspected Taliban remnants were injured and 10 others captured in a clash with government troops in the southern province of Helmand in Afghanistan, a Kabul-based daily reported Tuesday.

"Three Taliban fighters were injured and 10 others detained as the government troops began a clean up operation in the Nawzad district of Helmand province," daily Islah reported.

During the operation conducted by the troops of Afghan National Army (ANA), a large number of Taliban's arms and ammunition were seized.

Helmand and restive neighboring provinces along the border with Pakistan have seen rising Taliban insurgency for the last several months, in which dozens of US and Afghan soldiers and civilians were killed.

In a series of Taliban-related attacks in southern Afghanistan this month, one US soldier was killed and two others were wounded in Geresk district of Farah province.

Taliban's fugitive leader Mullah Mohammad Omar has vowed to continue Jihad or holy war against US-backed Karzai government and US-dominated foreign troops unless they leave the war-torn country. Enditem
