GAZA, May 24
(Xinhuanet) -- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees
in the Near East (UNRWA) offered 89 houses to homeless Palestinians in the
southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah.
The UN relief agency said in a statement on Monday that 93 families consisting of 475 people whose homes
were demolished by the Israel army would be beneficiaries of the new
houses.
It said that the Israeli occupation forces had
destroyed more than 1,309 Palestinian houses since the beginning of the Intifada
(Uprising), and at least 18,300 Palestinians were rendered
homeless.
The statement said that building these new housing
units cost the agency 4.6 million US dollars, adding that such projects had been
finished despite UNRWA's tight budget.
The UNRWA also called
for an urgent donation of 35 million dollars to house other homeless
Palestinians. Enditem |
