SHANGHAI, May 21 (Xinhuanet) -- World champions Guo Jingjing and Wu Minxia won the women's three-meter springboard synchronized event after leading a tired field in the final Friday at the Shanghai Champions Diving Tour, an international invitational lasting three days.

Guo and Wu, a Shanghai native, eased to the expected victory with 343.20 points in the final of four pairs.

"I think I didn't do a very satisfactory job today as I am not in my best shape," said Guo.

She jokingly claimed to be still suffering from the jet lag from the FINA Grand Prix events in Canada and the Untied States, which ended on May 9.

Hou Yuanyuan and Fang Min, who were just back from the week-long national spring championships in Shenzhen, southern China, finished runners-up in 316.50.

Russian-born Australian veteran Irina Lashko and her teammate Chantelle Michell settled for the third in 307.80.

Canadian pair Emilie Heymans and Blythe Hartley failed to make the final as platform world champion Heymans in Barcelona has beenill for days.

"She began feverish aboard plane and her illness developed after arriving here (on Tuesday)," said the team manager. He estimated it was the result of fatigue.

Heymans finished second both in Canada and the United States.

Australian coach Wang Tongxiang agreed that long time travelingmade the athletes in low forms. "They are tired after so many events, so none of them is in good form now," said the Beijing-born Chinese coach. "But we were glad to accept the invitation from China," he added.

Men's platform synchronized world champions Robert Newbery and Mathew Helm will be in their fifth event in the past six weeks, after making appearances in the Zhuhai Grand Prix, the national trials, then Canada and the United States. Enditem
