BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhuanet) -- The All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots has expressed its support of the May 17 statement on the cross-Straits relations by the central autorities and appealedto Taiwan compatriots to resolutely fight against "Taiwan independence".

"The All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots fully supports the statement on the current cross-Strait relations made by the Taiwan Work Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CCCPC) and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council," said President of the federation Yang Guoqing on Tuesday.

"The federation also resolutely supports the solemn stand of the CPC and the central government in safeguarding national unity and firmly fighting against 'Taiwan independence'," Yang said.

Yang said Chen Shui-bian had disclosed his true nature of "exercising fake democracy on the one hand and seeking 'Taiwan independence' earnestly on the other."

Chen had been trying every means to incite antagonism across the Taiwan Straits in disregard of the fact that both sides of the Straits belong to one China and the common wishes of compatriots of both sides, he said.

"Chen had been sabotaging the foundation of peaceful relations across the Straits, gravely harming the feelings of people on both sides and the fundamental interests of Taiwan compatriots," said Yang, a native of Taipei, Taiwan.

He appealed to the Taiwan compatriots to ponder over the bright prospects of mutual benefit, common development and sharing the dignity of the Chinese nation in the world under the one-China principle and to make joint efforts to make it a reality.

Yang urged the Taiwan authorities to refrain from taking further risky actions and make the right choice: either peaceful cross-Strait relations under the one-China principle or destroying the peace in cross-Strait relations by seeking "Taiwan independence".

He called on the Taiwan compatriots to see through the true nature of Chen Shui-bian, which is seeking "Taiwan independence", fully understand the dangers posed by "Taiwan independence", and discard and fight against "Taiwan independence". Enditem
