Russia supports China's statement on Taiwan issue
www.chinaview.cn 2004-05-18 01:41:26

MOSCOW, May 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Russia fully understands and supports China's stance on Taiwan issue set forth in the latest statement, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov said on Monday.

Fedotov made the remark during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Russia Liu Guchang.

Fedotov said the statement made by the Office for Taiwan Affairs under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Taiwan Affairs Office of China's State Council earlier on Monday is an important document of great influence.

He reaffirmed Russia's position on Taiwan issue, noting that Russia consistently and firmly supports China's stance, adheres to one-China policy and is against the "independence of Taiwan."

He stressed that the practice in Hong Kong has proved the full correctness of "one China -- two systems" policy. China's reunification is its domestic issue, he said.

Liu informed the Russian side on the current situation across the Taiwan Straits and acquainted it with the statement. Enditem
