China not to establish relations with countries having ties with Taiwan
www.chinaview.cn 2004-05-11 19:48:05

BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Any country who hopes to develop relations with China should respect the stand that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is a part of China, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Jianchao at a press conference Tuesday.

Liu made the remark when asked to comment on the newly-elected Panamanian President Martin Torrijos Espino's remark that he hopedto establish diplomatic ties with China without breaking the country's ties with Taiwan.

China is willing to establish diplomatic ties with other countries, only if they recognize that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is a part of China, said the spokesman.

He also said that China establishes and develops relations withother countries on the five principles of peaceful coexistence, especially the one of non-interference in each other's internal affairs. Therefore, those who have sincere hopes to set up diplomatic ties with China should respect and accept this stand. Enditem
