UNITED NATIONS, May 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Despite the death threat by al Qaeda's Osama bin Laden, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said Friday that he will carry on his work with precautions.

Annan told reporters at the UN headquarters in New York that hewill take the threat seriously and carry on with his work and life.

Bin Laden said Thursday in a web site that he will grant 10,000 grams of gold to whoever kills Annan or his Special Advisor Lakhdar Brahimi, who is now in Iraq for consensus on the caretaker Iraqi government.

Annan's spokesman Fred Eckhard said Thursday that the world body is planning for a 21-million-dollar fence to bolster its New York headquarters. The improvements will also include new gates, improved outdoor lighting, additional closed-circuit television cameras, vehicle barriers and an electronic system for controllingaccess.

With gold selling Thursday on London exchanges for 387.60 dollars a troy ounce, 10,000 grams of gold was valued at 124,630 dollars. The US government now offers 50 millions dollars for the capture or killing of bin Laden. Enditem
