SEOUL, May 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The high-level inter-Korean military talks may be held around mid-May, said South Korean Unification Minister Jeong Se-hyun, who returned from Pyongyang on Friday afternoon.
Jeong made the remarks at a press conference held in downtown Seoul.
Earlier Friday, South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) concluded four-day 14th Inter-Korean Ministerial Meeting in Pyongyang with a three-point joint statement.
And minutes after the two side ended the talks, the DPRK side informed the South Korean delegation that the DPRK military had agreed to hold high-level military talks with South Korea.
During previous inter-Koran ministerial talks, the two sides only agreed in principle to hold such military talks to discuss how to avoid possible naval clashes along the Northern Limit Line (NLL), the so-called inter-Korean sea border.
The controversial sea border is rich in crabs, and the two countries once had conflicts around the NLL as they tried to protect fishing boats operating there.
Moreover, the minister also said that in order to celebrate thefourth anniversary of the 2000 inter-Korean summit between then South Korean President Kim Dae-jung and DPRK top leader Kim Jong IL, a new round of reunion of separated families is likely to be held around June 20. Enditem
