UNITED NATIONS, May 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Middle East mediators said here on Tuesday that they have agreed to set up a mechanism to oversee the implementation of their roadmap peace plan by Israelisand Palestinians.

    The mechanism will be established under the authority of the so-called quartet -- the United Nations, the United States, the European Union and Russia, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said ina statement issued after a meeting of the four parties.

    Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters that the mechanism is aimed at ensuring the final status issues to be resolved through negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians. Enditem
