Settlers seize Palestinian houses in West Bank
www.chinaview.cn 2004-05-04 12:07:15

GAZA, May 3 (Xinhuanet) -- About 150 Jewish settlers backed by dozens of Israeli border police forces seized on Monday two Palestinian houses in the town of Abu Dis in the West Bank, Palestinian sources said.

Some of the settlers who seized the houses were members of the Jewish settlers' movement of Atirat Kohanim, which calls for expelling the Palestinians out of Israel and the Palestinian
territories and the demolition of Al Aqsa Mosque, Palestinian state-run news agency Wafa reported.

The settlers surrounded the two houses by barbed wire in Abu Dis,between the cities of Ramallah and Jerusalem, Palestinian witnesses said.

The settlers arrived with trucks of furniture, the witnesses said, adding that "this indicates that they are planning to stay in the houses for a long term."

According to Palestinian residents, the two houses are not far from the building that is planned to be the permanent headquarters of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) in Abu Dis.

The settlers claimed that they had bought the two houses with the land, and threatened its residents that there would be no opportunity to appeal to the Israeli high court of justice.
