ˇˇISLAMABAD, May 3 (Xinhuanet) -- The government and the people of Pakistan strongly condemned the terrorist attack in southern Gwadar port Monday, in which three Chinese engineers were killed and nine Chinese and two Pakistanis were injured.
The Foreign Office said in a press release that President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali have expressed outrage and condemnation over the incident.
Musharraf, in his letter to Chinese President Hu Jintao, strongly condemned "this barbaric act of terrorism" and underlinedthat Pakistan will never allow a few terrorists to undermine Pakistan-China friendship and cooperation.
In the letter, the President expressed deep distress and profound shock over the loss of lives and injuries to Chinese engineers and project personnel and conveyed sincerest condolencesto the families who had lost their dearest ones, according to the press release.
"We will do our utmost in providing every assistance and treatment to those injured," the President was quoted as saying.
Immediately after the incident, Musharraf spoke to Chinese Ambassador Zhang Chunxiang through telephone and assured him that strict measures were being taken to ensure the safety and securityof all Chinese nationals working in Pakistan.
Jamali, in his letter to Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, said, "we will leave no stone unturned to apprehend the culprits, who will be given the most severe punishment."
Expressing his grief and shock over the incident, Jamali reiterated that Pakistan is taking steps to provide security to all Chinese nationals working in Pakistan.
He also underscored that Pakistan and China, as partners in thefight against terrorism, would further strengthen their cooperation and together "eliminate extremism and terrorism."
The prime minister also sent his deepest condolences to the families of those killed and conveyed his sympathies to the injured Chinese engineers. The injured, he was quoted as saying, will receive the best possible treatment. Enditem
