Egyptian intelligence chief to visit Arafat

GAZA, April 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian Foreign Minister Nabil Shaath said on Wednesday that Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman will visit the Palestinian territories and meet leader Yasser Arafat.

Shaath told Al-Hayat Al-Jadida daily that Suleiman's visit will fall after the meeting of the international quartet due on May 4 in New York.

Shaath said that Palestinians and Egyptians are committed to the international resolutions regarding the Palestinian issue, adding that they oppose the Israeli unilateral plan of disengagement from Palestinians.

"We will work on activating the roadmap peace plan and its implementation through timetables and mechanisms and defy all the Israeli threats launched against President Arafat," Shaath stated.

The Palestinian foreign minister said that Palestinians would seek a UN resolution on enhancing the rights of Palestinians against the backdrop that US President George W. Bush gave unprecedented endorsement to the Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's disengagement plan.  Enditem
