DAMASCUS, April 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Several explosions were heard late Tuesday in an area where foreign embassies are located in the Syrian capital, Al Jazeera satellite TV channel reported.

Xinhua correspondents reported from the scene that the huge explosions took place in the west district of Damascus at around 8 pm on Tuesday.

Local witnesses told Xinhua that the explosions were caused by a truck loaded with TNT.

A passerby was killed in the explosions while Iranian embassy was hit with slight damage, the witnesses said.

Earlier, a local person who asked not to be named told Xinhua that the explosions were probably happened near the Iranian embassy, which was located in Fayez Mansur street, one of the main streets in downtown Damascus.

Ways to the explosion site were immediately blocked by security guards with machine guns. All cars and passengers going towards the direction were told to turn back, Xinhua correspondents reported from the scene.  Enditem
