BERLIN, April 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Germany's Foreign Ministry confirmed Saturday that two German security officials have been missing in Iraq since Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for the ministry said there was no evidence that they were kidnapped.

German ARD television reported that two members of the German counter-terrorism unit GSG-9 went missing near the Sunni-stronghold of Fallujah on Wednesday. The two men, aged 38 and 25, were feared kidnapped, said the report.

The incident took place when a convoy of vehicles carrying the men were ambushed on their way from Amman, the capital of Jordan, to Baghdad on Wednesday. The other vehicles in the convoy arrived in Baghdad later, ARD reported.

The men were dispatched to guard the German embassy in Baghdad on a routine exchange of staff, ARD said. Enditem
