www.chinaview.cn 2004-04-08 09:43:21

LIMA, April 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The Peruvian Defense Ministry said Wednesday that a group of 25 people allegedly kidnapped by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrilla group were not in Peru.

"It is very difficult that the presence of 25 people is not noticed in the border with Colombia," the Defense Ministry said ina communique to disregard reports by local media that the FARC hadhidden the people in Peru's border area.

The document agreed with the reports about Colombian Guerra Siquihua, alias Gusano and Profe, one of the main weapon suppliersfor the FARC. He was arrested last March in the Peruvian city of Iquitos and deported to Colombia.

With between 17,000 and 20,000 men operating in different partsof the nation, the FARC is the oldest and largest leftist guerrilla group in Colombia. Enditem
