Norway to bring troops home from Iraq within months

    STOCKHOLM, April 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Norwegian Foreign Minister Jan Petersen said Tuesday that Norway may withdraw troops from Iraq within several months so as to shift the focus of peacekeeping to other regions, the Norwegian news agency NTB reported.

    After attending a UN meeting in New York, Peterson told Norwegian TV reporters that Norway sent a small contingent of 150 soldiers to help rebuild Iraq but the troops should not remain there too long.

    Peterson said Norway hopes to send its troops to more-needed places including Sudan to undertake UN peacekeeping missions.

    He added that the NATO-led peacekeeping missions in Afghanistanand Kosovo are also priorities to Norway. Enditem
