BEIJING, April 7, (Xinhuanet) -- Drinking coffee may dramatically reduce the risk of non-insulin dependent, or Type 2, diabetes.
The research, published by the National Public Health Institute in Finland, was based on the data of nearly 7,000 men and some 7,700 women aged 35 to 64.
According to the research, women who drank three to four cups of coffee a day had a 29-percent lower risk of diabetes than those who drank no coffee. If they drank 10 or more cups the risk decreased by nearly 80 percent.
Type 2 diabetes normally appears after the age of about 40 and occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin, which enables cells to absorb energy-giving glucose. Enditem
