HONG KONG, April 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Secretary for Constitutional Affairs Stephen Lam said Sunday that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will promote publicity of the Basic Law this year.
He made the remarks during a national flag raising ceremony attended by local students to mark the 14th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law.
Lam said Hong Kong is to hold a Basic Law Publicity Day planning contest. So far, more than 50 schools have prepared to take part in the contest.
He said the prize winning schools will be offered visits to related departments and units in Beijing, in an effort to let HongKong students have more knowledge about the Basic Law.
He said Hong Kong has established a national flag raising association and over 100 schools have become its members and national flag raising activities are being promoted in those schools.
He said that "having the younger generation attend the flag raising ceremony with us is very important" for enhancing the national education.
Lam said a short TV program will be televised soon for spreading the concept and importance of "One Country, Two Systems."
In addition, HKSAR government departments concerned will hold an exhibition of the national flag, national emblem and national anthem from April and forums on national education and Basic Law education.
Lam said the Basic Law has defined principles of "One Country, Two Systems," "Hong Kong People Governing Hong Kong" and "High Degree of Autonomy." It is very important for Hong Kong young students to learn more about the motherland and "One Country, Two Systems."
He said that at present, the elder generation well implements the Basic Law and in the future, the younger generation will follow the suit and become the pillar of Hong Kong. Enditem |
