MANILA, April 3 (Xinhuanet) -- Marine soldiers recovered a businessman kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf bandits more than four months ago in the southern Philippines, the military said Saturday.

Ramon Inoferio, 40, was recovered in Patikul Town, Sulu Province on Friday night after undergoing an ordeal of 134 days, the military said.

The victim showed signs of extreme trauma and his wrists and legs had bruises, sustained from being chained during his captivity, Brigadier General Nelson Allaga was quoted by a Philippine Daily Inquirer online news report as saying.

Allaga said it was hard to talk to Inoferio as he "kept mentioning mortar and cannon fires," probably a result of an earlyMarch encounter in Patikul where Marine soldiers requested for aerial and ground assaults against some 200 Abu Sayyaf bandits.

The Abu Sayyaf, notorious for its kidnap-for-ransom and killingactivities, has been branded by both Washington and Manila as a terrorist group with links to Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network since the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks on the United States.

Security forces have arrested 10 suspected Abu Sayyaf members and seized 36 km of explosives over the past week in the government's intensified anti-terror campaign.

The government said the arrests of the suspects, who allegedly plotted to bomb trains and shopping malls in Manila, averted bombing attacks similar to those that killed more than 190 people in Madrid, Spain, on March 11. Enditem
